Did you know most of what you buy off the shelf for cleansing your face with contains mostly water? Plus, because of that water, there needs to be preservatives (usually synthetic) to keep it from going gross? Time to learn to make your own!Each recipes only makes enough for one time, which is great because you could use a new one every day of the week! Here are a few recipes to try:
Yogurt & Honey: Plain, full-fat yogurt is particularly good for sensitive, dry or irritated skin. Mix one tablespoon of yogurt with a drizzle of honey, massage into skin then rinse with cool water.
Buttermilk- Soak a soft washcloth in cool butter milk & cleanse face using circular motions. Rinse with cool water. Calms & soothes hot or irritated skin and can even help a sunburn.
Olive Oil-Apply a thin layer to face, then tissue off. Best if used at night because it will leave your skin hydrated & well-moisturized.
Oatmeal-Mix a small handful with water to make a paste, rub into skin then rinse. Exfoliates lightly, calms skin & can help stop itchiness & redness.
Papaya, Pineapple & Pumpkin-Mash a tablespoon of each fruit and mix together. Apply mixture to skin as a cleansing mask. Let sit for 5 minutes, then rinse. Gives the skin a more luminous appearance because of it’s efficient exfoliating properties. Not recommended for sensitive skin. (side note: a smoothie can be made with the papaya & pineapple and the pumpkin can be given to dogs as a healthy treat!)
Green tea-Splash cool brewed green tea on face & rinse.
Liquid castile soap (I love Dr. Bronner’s) is also a great option for cleansing the skin. Use only a very small amount and plenty of water
